Ann Coulter takes Logic Lifeline wall idea

I have posted a couple of times on the concept of a border wall that would be built by Mexican workers. I wonder if my idea has somehow reached the ears of Ann Coulter, or if we both thought of it. Here is a snippet from a NewsMax story:
Asked how she would solve the illegal immigration problem, Coulter told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly on Thursday: "I'd build a wall. In fact, I'd hire illegal immigrants to build the wall."
Great idea, Ann! The fact is that the US cannot simply allow all to come to the US who want to come. A completely open border would likely lead to an influx of up to a billion new immigrants. As much as the world supposedly criticizes the US, they still want to come here to live. As much as I would love to see the rest of the world have the opportunities I have, if everybody came it would bring such a dramatic change and strain the structure that it would cease to be what they are coming for. To make it fair, immigration needs to be sructured and fairly distributed to people of all countries and cultures. Current Mexican-US immigration policy does not allow for such a fair distribution. The only real solution is a wall and I think it fitting to hire Mexican labor to build it. Apparently, so does Ann.

For real?! You want to build a wall around your superiour country?

How high do you want this wall to be then, and what would the walls be made out of, an electric fence maybe?

What about a roof over the whole country as well then, now that would be something! Nobody would ever be able to illegaly enter or leave the "Land of the FREE"!

Wow, I must say that that tought never ever have even entered my mind...

Merete, nice to hear from you again. I'm not sure how closely you have followed our immigration problem here in the US. i had another post that laid out some undeniable points on immigration, here are a few:

    1) The US can NOT accept EVERYBODY who wants to come here. For all the international complaints about the US, there are still many more that want to come than we can immediately accept.

    2) Immigration has proven itself well in the US, but it must be distributed fairly and evenly from around the world.

    3) An open/porous border policy would break the first 2 points. The success of US immigration is based on carefully regulating the flow and bye the subsequent melting pot effect. Too many at once would kill our economy. Too many from one group or another would endanger our melting pot because as we have seen with many Mexican immigrants: they refuse to melt.

As for the fence or wall: we have a very huge border. Political lack of will aside, it is very difficult to monitor all points of the border. To build a barrier of some sort that spans all or most of the border would require less manpower to patrol the border. This would severely hamper illegal immigration and help meet the goals of my first points.

Of course I could see other countries in favor of a US weakened by failed immigration policies, so your comments come as no surprise. If the world could learn one lesson and quickly that would do them most good it is: The idea that a weakened US will benefit the rest of the world is totally false. A weakened US will throw the entire world into economic ruin. Weakened US military might will open the door for world wide tyranny as we are the only force holding it at bay. If the US falls, there would be billions who die because of the tanking of the world economy and the violenct revolutions that would ensue. Just think of the millions who died under Lenin, Stalin, Mao. Without a strong US, those numbers are very small compared to what would happen.

What are you saying, Mexican immigrants refuse to melt? And you think that by building a wall between your countries, that will keep them out?

That's like not getting the real problem here. A wall cannot stop the immigration, a wall only creates apartheid between you.

I find the idea of building a wall to prevent people from entering USA just crazy. And specially from a country who is just full of immigrants! A land that is only a few hundred years old, you are in fact all immigrants! Where did your grandparents come from? Probably somewhere in Europe I assume?

How can you possibly say that you have too many Mexicans in your country while your country is so large that it could have place for millions more!

I live in a country with most inhabitants pr. square meter. It's really crowded here, but I have never even heard anybody suggest we build a brick wall outside the boarder line because we have to many Maroccans or Turks here?! Like that would prevent them from coming?

That's the main problem with you Americans. You think you owe the whole wide world and that we should be grateful and humble because you are superiour.

You need to reach out to your neighbour, you have to understand that all humans are one, no matter what religion or color they have. We all want the same, we are driven by the same basics.

    Merete,

What are you saying, Mexican immigrants refuse to melt?
When you see the protestors place the Mexican flag higher than the US flag, you know what I am talking about. I love the melting pot of the USA. I love the variety of ethnic cultures we have here such as the Chinatowns of New York, Chicago and San Fransisco (yes I have been to all 3), the Little Italies, the Mexican and Indian restaurants. I love the cultures represented in Disney's Epcot Center. I think all should be proud of their heritage, but when it comes to living in the US the melting is placing loyalty to your motherland below your loyalty to your new home country. Illegal immigrants often do not do this. They don't even learn the language and force tax payers to provide bilingual education.

That's like not getting the real problem here. A wall cannot stop the immigration, a wall only creates apartheid between you.

Apartheid is an inflammatory buzzword that has nothing to do with what I am talking about. Apartheid took people from the same country and made one group above the other group. I am speaking of a wall to enforce the law of the land.

I find the idea of building a wall to prevent people from entering USA just crazy. And specially from a country who is just full of immigrants!

Once again you mix the issues. This is not about race or hatred. I have no problem with immigrants. Yes, you are right this country is full of immigrants. That has made this country great in many ways. Let them come, but LET IT BE DONE LEGALLY. Let it be done fairly and evenly from among all countries and races. Stop the LINEJUMPERS from cutting in front of others who are waiting to enter legally. Why should those waiting in line suffer?

How can you possibly say that you have too many Mexicans in your country while your country is so large that it could have place for millions more!

Same answer. I did not say too many Mexicans. I said too many illegal immigrants. Our Mexican population will soon take over our black population. Our country is large, and can handle many more but it must be done orderly or we will bring in millions of partakers instead of millions of contributors. This is not about race. It is about economics.

That's the main problem with you Americans. You think you own the whole wide world and that we should be grateful and humble because you are superiour.

American superiority is not about pride or arrogance. Our economic and military superiority is simply a fact. The state of California alone is the 8th largest economy in the world. I don't expect humilty and pride from other countries. What is amazing is that other countries spend so much time resenting the wealth of the US instead of trying to duplicate our successful formula to build wealth in their countries. Instead they continue to chase the skirts of communism and socialism and continue to struggle with massive unemployment and poverty.

You have no idea what it is like to be an American. We don't sit around feeling superior. For the most part we sit around and mind our own business until some other country targets our national interests or security. Or until help is needed and we send our billions even if it is met with ingratitude. We are the most giving nation on the earth.

We do reach out to our neighbor.
