Illegal alien uses church and citizen son to continue to break the law

Elvira Arellano, an illegal alien and former deportee in Chicago, fled into the St. Adalbert United Methodist Church on the west side of the city to avoid once again being deported. Elvira has a son, born in the U.S., and therefore, a citizen. I have seen this story reported on the TV news, and it is usually framed as this woman, if deported, being forced to be separated from her son. No one seems to understand that just because this boy is a U.S. citizen, that doesn't mean his mother can't take him with her when she goes. Yes, he has the benefit of citizenship because he was born here. I have no problem with that, since that has been the law for years. I do, however, have a problem with people claiming the mother should be allowed to stay so that she does not have to be separated from her son. The fact is, she is a law-breaker and a fugitive. Tell all the people who followed the law and waited their turn in line to come here, that this woman deserves special treatment. She has a choice - leave with her son, or leave alone.

Hey, if your Hero Bush has his way ALL ILLEGALS will be able to stay and take FULL advantage of all of our services as WE the tax payer foots the bill...as usual.

Boy, that Bush really cares about the American Middle Class!

The 14th amendment was meant for the children of slaves so that they would be free. It was supposed to be a way to end slavery without having to war amongst ourselves. Somehow it like all things got twisted arround to suit the needs of of those who would not do things legally.

    Joe,

I certainly am not happy with how Bush has chosen to handle the illegal alien problem. He has done what just about every politician has done in recent years - ignore the problem and hope it goes away. However, your analysis is a bit of a stetch - equating a guest worker program with all illegals staying and taking full advantage of our system is an exaggeration. Nevertheless, I still am greatly disappointed with how Bush and virtually all politicians who call themselves conservatives have not handled this issue with conservative principles at all.

Build a wall (both figuratively and literally) between a mother and child and you do nothing but damage the child.

    fkab,

What wall? No one is telling the mother she must be separated from her child. She is being told she must leave the country. She is perfectly able to take the child with her. If I were in another country and being told to leave, it would never even cross my mind to leave my child there. This is a smokescreen, and many are being blinded by it.
