Profiling WILL come - make it NOW

The Washington Examiner has an editorial recommending the use of profiling to narrow down the search criteria at airports now that the searching will take so much time. Since there is no technology to detect explosive material in items like toothpaste and hair gel, hand searches are required. According to the Examiner:
We recognize that the vast majority of Muslims do not share the Jihadist obsessions with killing Americans, Brits and other Westerners. But there is one undeniable fact about the 1993 World Trace Center bombers, the Sept. 11 murderers, the Madrid bombers, the London subway bombers and the present liquid bomb plotters — all are clearly identifiable as being from Muslim nations. We’ve yet to see bombers who look even remotely like a gray-haired governess from Southampton, a harried middle-aged U.S. sales executive from Los Angeles or a haggard dad and mom with kids in tow returning home to Atlanta.
We all have seen the photos of the 9-11 terrorists. We have seen names and/or faces of those identified as being involved in terrorist activities. Now there is a list out of those identified as being involved in this plot. Here is the list as presented on MichelleMalkin.com:
Umir Hussain, 24, London E14
Muhammed Usman Saddique, 24, London E17
Waheed Zaman, 22, London E17
Assan Abdullah Khan, 22, London E17
Waseem Kayani, 28, High Wycombe
Waheed Arafat Khan, 24, London E17
Cossor Ali, 24, London E17
Tayib Rauf, 21, Birmingham
Ibrahim Savant, 26, London E17
Osman Adam Khatib, 20, London E17
Shamin Mohammed Uddin, 36, Stoke Newington
Amin Asmin Tariq, 23, London E17
Shazad Khuram Ali, 27, High Wycombe
Tanvir Hussain, 24, London E10
Umar Islam, 28, (born Brian Young) High Wycombe
Assad Sarwar, 25, High Wycombe
Abdullah Ali, 26, London E17
Abdul Muneem Patel, 17, London E5
Nabeel Hussain, 21, Waltham Forest
Let's see. No John Smith, Susan Jones, Tom Brown. No Jose Rivera. No Jiang Wu. No Hans Schroeder. You get the idea. So far all have been Muslim Middle-Eastern men. With this undeniable fact in mind it is only obvious that this is the pool we should be focusing our security efforts on. Note I used the word "focusing" and not "limiting". Of course there is a potential threat from anybody.

This group has earned the right to be the most inconvenienced by security. I say that not only because this is the sole group involved in modern terrorism. I also say it because those of this group NOT involved in modern terrorism have remained virtually silent withholding any significant denouncement of these activities. If we do hear from this group it is to demand they not be treated differently. Groups like CAIR when they do belch out any statement it is like yesterday's criticism of President Bush for using the apt term "Islamic Fascists". Since groups like CAIR and the Muslim Middle-Eastern men in the US refuse to organize a significant counter to the thinking that it is acceptable to kill innocent people, it is time they are given a motive. Since the protection and saving of human life is not enough to get these groups off their backsides to police themselves, maybe some major inconvenience will. Of course these thick-heads will react by protesting the profiling instead of protesting murders of innocents.

Wake up America. We almost lost another nearly 4000 people in this foiled attack. The days where we can reject profiling and sit around holding hands and singing Kum Ba Ya are over. The MENTALITY that targeting innocent civilians is justified has taken over radicals and the numbers in that "radical" category is growing as world appeasement gives them encouragement.

If we do not begin profiling, the chance of a successful attack will grow. When successful attacks rise, there will come a day when profiling will become palatable even to a liberal. It will come, so why does it need to take more death to drive us to what we already know we need to do. Profiling WILL come - make it NOW.

Well I agree with you on this one Pal as I am getting sick and goddamned tired of these Scumbags and their total disregard for Human life. They are more than happy to exterminate innocents all in the name of thier BS GOD and BS RELIGION. Let's face it, for the most part the ones that want to perpetrate this evil in the name of Religion ain't fairskinned Irish Boys.

I say that if the Moslem/Islamic community cannot control and maintain the spread and the deeds of these scumbags, even though they be a small minority, than law enforcement has to do, what they have to do, to ensure the safety of the majority, even if that means the inconvenience or even the profiling of a few citizens

Oh My Goodness Joe Smoe, it wasn't until I got to the second paragraph that I realized you weren't talking about the Israelis.

    Joe,

There may be some hope for you yet. Keep moving to the right, when you get to the center, you will be right there with me. You too can be free from the chains that bind you, placed by the leftist cults. We are here to help you, but it is your journey. You must do the work, so that you too can see the truth unabated by partisan rhetoric.

    Julie,

First welcome to LL. I must say that your comment embodies a strange phenomenon where some are completely angry at the collateral damage the Israelis cause when tageting Hezbollah, yet you imply that Hezbollah and Al Queada targeting innocent civilians are not the first group to come to your mind to get angry at.

    Hi Joe

Maybe the other readers can't distinguish a real "conversion" from a fake one, but there are those of us who can. Welcome to the other side.

    fkab,

No one's talking about presuming guilt and indiscriminately throwing muslims in jail. The suggestion is to profile and check people who fit the profile more thoroughly than others in situations that warrant it (airports, etc.).

It is about presuming guilt. Don't kid yourself.

    FKAB,

You raise a good point. Presumption of guilt involves criminal charges. I am not suggesting they charge them with a crime just for showing up at an airport.

Since they already stop some people for extra searches if your point were valid we would already be presuming the guilt of grandmothers and blue eyed/blonde haired guys named Smith.

It is merely a matter of transferring the bulk of those searches to the group that statistically is more likely to warrant the search.

As conflicted as I am about this, I still cannot consent to a policy of racial profiling, based purely on principle. We are all equal before the law, and I don't believe that these measures will deal with the source of terrorism. It looks like one more step toward dictatorship, and I've read too many George Orwell books to ignore this threat!

Unfortunately, I am beginning to see that terrorism is like that. You either die or are forced to yield on rights and liberty.

In this case either the rights of all are yielded by LONG delays in the security search or the rights of some are yielded by profiling those from groups that so far have comprised virtually 100% of modern terrorists. Or nobody yields their rights and extended searches are put aside. Then people die.

Now it is airports, later it will be every other public place. By the end of the normal life the average person will lose thousands of hours of their life going through security.

I look forward to the day that everyone who looks like Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols are profiled at every turn, publicly humiliated and forever marked as a potential terrorist, not to be trusted.

Seems like all of you are conveniently forgetting about McVeigh and Nichols. They were those nice, average looking white boys who blew up that building in Oklahoma City in 1995 and killed 170 innocent men, women and children. The guys responsible for the worst terrorist attack on American soil until 9/11.

Or how about those nice white kids, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold? They killed 12 kids and teachers at Columbine. You probably conveniently forgot about them too. Look at their yearbook pictures. They probably look like your sons. You probably look like McVeigh and Nichols.

You all need to call your local FBI and ask them to come to your house immediately and with proper force to handle a potential terrorist threat. After all, since you look like a terrorist, you probably are one.
