Plame suit is a PR hit and run

Sensing that the momentum was shifting in a direction that would paint Joe Wilson as a fool, Valerie Plame has filed a lawsuit against Dick Cheney, Libby, Rove and others. Basically this is a case where the best defense is a strong offense. Knowing the media will play up this futile lawsuit regardless of facts, the Wilsons hope to shift the momentum in the other direction. Their ploy is dependent upon media cooperation and public ignorance. The law suit does not ever need to see the light of day in order to accomplish its goals. If it ever went to court it would be a long time in the future.

The other motivation I am sure has something to do with a book deal. On May 6 Valerie had signed a book deal that later fell through. It is about time for a new book deal to come around. This law suit just raised the bar on the price of that deal. With a book deal under her belt and a PR hit on the Bush administration, the goals will already be achieved. It would be foolish to go through with the lawsuit since it will in all likelihood wind up embarrassing both of the Wilsons. Some time in the future when all of this no longer matters, the suit will be quietly dropped. I hope the suit does go through, however. What fun it will be to finally put some people under oath. It is amazing how stories change when that happens.

No this is Just the Bush administrations version another BS case ie Whitewater.

But then again didn't Bush say that he would "FIRE ANYONE" that was tied to this leak???

I say keep this in front of the idiots that make up the American public to remind them that IRAQ IS BUSH'S WAR and he did all that he could to get us there and now it is a Failure and someone needs to be held accountable.

It took the GOP Opposition some time ,but they are learning how to play the GOP/ROVIAN game of politics quite well and the right hates it. I say just let them run on their FAILED record and they will lose.

Oh yeah this was on the AP this morning

Poll: Americans want Democrats in power

Remember, after they take control of congress the investigations will begin and your Beloved Idiot in Chief will be impeached..hahahhahahhhaaaa!!!

    Joe,

Remember just like with the electoral college we can have more DEM voters and still have a majority GOP. If 100% vote for a Dem in some communities yet 51% vote for the GOP in others you can still have more GOP.

Will people then in addition to wanting to get rid of the electoral college suggest we have a set of politicians we all vote for with a majority vote instead of having the districts vote?

I think Nov is going to be very disappointing for the left.

As for the firing, you think Rove should have been fired for a 20 second conversation where he confirms what Novak already found out elsewhere?

    Joe,

We shall see. The American people are as a whole pretty dense, but then again they have paid the price under Bush and the GOP and we shall se if they have had enough of this Liar and his FAILED POLICIES.

As for the firing, you think Rove should have been fired for a 20 second conversation where he confirms what Novak already found out elsewhere?

Yes, otherwise Bush is a liar, but then again we already knew that. Also, as Bush41, former head of the CIA said anyone that gives up any secrets that out a CIA agent is one level below scum and should pay. As far as the rest that gave up this info, in the book of the GOP and it's follows they are TRAITORS and should pay.

So Joe Wilson should pay for both verbally telling other that his wife worked for the CIA and for providing Valerie's name to Who's Who in American Politics.

As long as they are frog marched together, I might yield on that one.

Seriously though, Rove did not give her name, nor discuss any covert status. Just that she worked at the CIA and that she was involved in the decision to send Joe to Niger. If she did not do that as she claims in the lawsuit then he did not reveal a secret. So no firing for Rove no matter how you slice it.

I gotta hand it to you Pal no matter how bad things and the facts show that Bush and the GOP's policies have failed you still follow lock step and spout the party line.

Yes, even as the Americans and Russians poured into Berlin during the final days of WW2 there were still those faithful that thought the Fuhrer was right and that he could turn it around.

    Joe,

you mischaracterize me. Where Bush has failed, I have been there to criticize.

You go under the assumption if there was a bad outcome then it must have been a bad policy. When looking at both sides (what was done and what happened vs. what might have been done and what then would have happened) you are able to make a fair comparison. Bush reduced taxes. The fair comparison would be what if instead he had raised taxes on the rich. Even before he took office the economy was beginning to tilt toward recession. A tax hike in the middle of a recession would be economic suicide.

Likewise the alternative to invading Iraq would be to either do nothing and let the people lanquish under international sancions (minus the hanky panky from France, Germany and Russia) OR to lift the sanctions and Saddam would have been free to resurrect his WMD programs.

So I compare current events with the likely outcome of what would have happened if another path was chosen. Bush is not perfect and some things could have been handled way better. All in all I see things going pretty well.

I think no matter what facts come out you faithfully spout the anti-Bush rhetoric. The "country gone to hell in a handbasket" description that we have come to expect from you is simply not an accurate picture of reality. Yes, we need to address the illegal immigration problem and cut spending and address other issues. Many things, however, are going very well.

    Joe,

Do you think the people who leaked the SWIFT finance-tracking program to the NYTimes and LATimes should be prosecuted? Is that worse than leaking non-secret, non-covert Plame, or is the Plame leak worse?

    Well AICS,

I find your analysis of this situation to be very feasible and reasonable. Are you sure that you have never worked in politics before? ;)

    LA,

Thanks. And although I am sure it would be quite fun to work in politics, I have not enjoyed the pleasure. Libs can be so predictable. It is the GOP that you can't predict. So many know they can only win elections on conservative ideas, but seem to loath enacting them. Whenever threatened they run to the Center-Left where I think they would like to be all of the time.
