Obama Two Week Report Card

Two weeks into the Obama Presidency, I still do not fully know the direction Obama is taking us. Sure I have a better idea than before, but I need a little more time to fully resolve. There are three things that are shaping his decisions:

1) Who Obama is at the core
2) The people he owes for getting him in office
3) What he wants his legacy to be

I wanted to add a fourth factor - his desire for the good of the country, but I don't know him well enough yet - nor seen any evidence that he takes that into consideration.

I have been disturbed by what Obama has chosen to focus on in the first days in office. One of the first things he does upon waking up after the Inauguration festivities is to call Palastinian President Abbas making it a point to ensure he was the first foreign leader that was called. Later Obama would grant his first Presidential TV interview to the foreign Arab News al-Arabiya. This is a telling sign that Obama believes that if we kiss enough terrorist behind, that it will make us safer. This is the kind of liberal thinking that will get Americans killed. The Saudis have stated they like Obama's new tone. What we did not hear was the laughter behind closed doors.

Speaking of more Americans getting killed, next Obama signs the Executive Order to close Guantanimo Bay within a year. This is a bone to the nutroots who got him elected. There are no details of where the detainees will go. Read some stories here of released detainees that have been caught later in terrorist activities. One day in the future we will be seeing loved ones of victims decrying the closing of Guantanimo because one of the released terrorists pulled off an attack.

Speaking of mass murder, another item at the top of Obama's agenda was to restore funding to foreign groups that perform and support abortions.

Obama signed another executive order banning aggressive treatment of detainees such as waterboarding. Of course, there was some legal hocus pocus that actually leaves the door open to allow it if it really is necessary.

Finally, Obama has spent a lot of effort and energy to promote the trillion dollar stimulus package. This package mostly consists of wealth redistribution (for rebate checks to those who don't pay taxes) and a boatload of pork. Some of that pork includes $4-5 billion for top voter fraud organization ACORN (quite an expensive thank-you note), $50 million for "the arts", $25 million to repair damaged ATV trails (cool, but I don't want to pay for it), $650 million to help people switch to digital TV, $335 million for STD prevention, $70 million to help people stop smoking (will Obama take advantage of that?).

It is thoroughly disgusting that every time the GOP wants to cut taxes, the media comes out with all the hand wringing about how we cannot afford it, asking how we are going to pay for it. So far I have seen next to nothing like that from the media over the addition of a trillion dollars to the debt load for our children and grandchildren.

That is my summary of Obama's first two weeks in office. I truly tried to find something positive to say about him, but could not find anything. Sure, there are a few things he has not (yet) done wrong but there is still plenty of time. So far, Obama gets a D- from the Logic Lifeline.

You missed the part about how Obama wants to cut the defense budget by 10% and stop missile defense.

As for the Gitmo detainees, there's talk of putting them at Camp Pendleton, because there's so much open space on base. I like that idea. They can house them on the gunnery range and use them as target practice for the really big guns that make my windows rattle during exercises...

Ahh yes, I forgot about his surrender to Russia. I did not hear about the 10% somehow.

If they must come to the US, Camp Pendleton would be a good place. It is very big. When you look up at all the trails on the big hills, you just dream of riding a 4 wheeler on them. Of course, my son feels differently since he had to march all over them during training.

And Logic Lifeline gets an "F" in having any clue whatsoever.

Enjoy your frikkin middle class tax cut, your new infrastructure, your friends and relatives back from a pointless needless war and a President that can finally use complete sentences.

Us grown-ups will be making sure things are handled while you're off whining in the corner.

  • At 8:33 AM, Blogger All_I_Can_Stands said…

    Anonymous,

What clue do you have? There is no planned cut in the middle class tax rate, nor any plan to extend the Bush tax cuts. I can expect a tax rebate check this year like many who don't even pay taxes. So on your first point I can assume you are in support of wealth redistribution.

As for the new infrastructure, sure there are billions going into this generic area. How it will end up being spent (efficiently, or in a way that means many more billions will be needed for cleanup) remains to be seen. In addition to infrastructure there are billions more for pork and goodies to repay for help in electing dems and to buy more votes in the future. You have left no clues as to where this 2nd trillion dollars in 6 months is going to come from.

As for your third point, I have heard of no plans of ending the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan. I am sure our troops will still be there at the end of Obama's first and only term.

You are right, Obama is very adept at stringing together a sentence consisting of uh's, you know's and um's. Ohhhh, you must be referring to when he has a teleprompter in front of him.

Wanna try again? If there was a score below F, you would have been given that on this lame excuse of an answer.

If any American has to die at the hands of one of the terrorists released by our clueless, inexperienced, and corrupt new President, I nominate "Anonymous" and/or his/her loved ones. All the liberal retards fawning over this guy and approving of everything he does should be willing to sacrifice. For the good of America, and all. It's important for us to be loved by the French and all, even if it means dead Americans.

  • At 4:47 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Nice blog you run here. You can always tell it's a good one when you find commenters calling for the death of Americans. Real nice. Don't forget those 3000 Americans that died on 9/11 because Bush couldn't be bothered to read his daily security briefings. You do remember that clueless, inexperienced, corrupt failure, don't you?

So glad to see the Limbaugh Regurgitation Squad is in fine working order too. It's so much easier than thinking for yourself, isn't it? Because mentioning "wealth redistribution" you can't possibly be referring to the misguided and now devastatingly failing concept of "trickle down economics" that has been the hallmark of Reagan-Bush-Bush devotees, right?

It's too bad that hateful, selfish and ugly minded people who try to tear him down will get to partake in all of the good things that the Obama administration will bring this country. You won't deserve any of it.

    Anonymous,

You can always tell a deranged liberal. They do not take the time to read before spewing their hate filled venom. There is a difference between calling for deaths and predicting them.

I will give a few points though. At your level of derangement, I would have expected you to be a 9/11 Truther. You at least see it as a government failure instead of a government conspiracy.

Funny how you regurgitate mindless cliches, then accuse me of regurgitating Limbaugh. First, I do not have the opportunity to listen to him. Unlike many liberals, I am working when he is on the air.

Nice dive on the wealth redistribution. It is so simple it is impossible to miss unless the avoidance is purposeful. If one does not pay taxes, yet is given a tax rebate they are being granted wealth they did not earn - hence redistribution.

As for trickle down economics, it has been enacted by 3 presidents now: Kennedy, Reagan and Bush 43. On each occasion, it resulted in increased revenue and a long string of quarters of GDP growth. Yet the left continues to paint such success as a misguided failure. Get your head out of DailyKos and Huff post and think a bit.

Yes, among many other achievers in this country, I will partake in the good things from the Obama administration like my portion of the added debt. The extra debt and protectionism will kick us into an extended depression just like FDR did. Can't wait to partake in the soup lines.

  • At 2:52 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Greg "nominates" me and other Americans to die. That is quite clearly wishing for American deaths. You're the one with the reading comprehension problem, not me.

You have no idea that the economy is in shambles, do you? Maybe your affluent lily white burb seems unaffected, but the economy is a wreck. That is not the fault of the 2-week old Obama administration. It is the fault of 8 years of Republican Iron Fist rule which took billions in surplus (delivered by a Democrat) and turned our economy into a stinking dungheap. We have the highest unemployment rate since 1992 (delivered by Reagan's trickle down failure). We have massive foreclosures and a decimated housing market. We have failed banks and layoffs. You can't escape the truth that all this and 9/11 and the release of a bunch of untried Gitmo detainees has all happened on Bush's watch.

Facts. I know you have no use for them here in your echo chamber because they get in the way and undermine your arguments, but you should try using facts sometimes. It'll keep you from sounding like an idiot should you ever find yourself talking to people who can read.

  • At 3:19 PM, Blogger All_I_Can_Stands said…

    Anonymous,

Since you still cannot read correctly, lets try this slowly:

I pointed out that the efforts of liberals lead now by Obama to close Gitmo, will lead to detainees being freed and people will die. Greg simply pointed out that IF people are going to die because of stupid choices by liberals, it would be more just if liberals are the ones that do. That is NOT calling for people to die.

You also cannot read my statement about the economy. I did not blame the current state of the economy on the two week presidency of Obama. Bush 43 did inherit a recession. He cut taxes. The economy grew from its low point after 9/11 and tax revenues rose. (SLOW MOTION HERE: HOW. CAN. TAX. REVENUE. RISE. IF. THE. ECONOMY. IS. NOT. GETTING. BETTER?)

As in Kennedy and Reagan's tax cuts, we had a long string of GDP growth that now has gone into recession. The economy never goes up forever.

Obama has an opportunity to help the situation with tax rate cuts, that always work or to make it worse with massive spending and giveaways, and more protectionism. The depression that comes will be owned entirely by Obama and this Democrat congress.

As for the massive foreclosures, you will ignore the facts that the Democrats caused it, so I won't waste my time.

    AICS,

I suspect anonymous is Joe Schmoe and all of the other alteregos he has used over the time you have had this blog. Look at his choice of words, the tone of his prose, and the erroneous analysis he gives. Also note how he tries to turn legitimate criticism of the current sitting President into a referendum on George Bush and uses no credible evidence to back up his weak and faulty claims.

If it's not Joe, it's a clone that has been drinking the same koolaid from the same propaganda laced websites. Zombies, they are.

You are so right about the nose dive to criticize Bush. The complete avoidance of any criticism of Obama or this massive debt bill is amazing. To avoid criticism of the massive pork is a credibility slayer. They think they are helping their cause by going in complete lock step.

The facts are the GOP lost big in the last two elections because the people (even a lot of Red State inbreds) have had it with their Partisan crapola and the same old FAILED POLICIES.

Let me guess to solve the problems that brought us as a nation to brink of ruin (Bush/GOP policies) we should re-embrace them ..ie Tax Cuts for the Rich and Corporations, Declaring more LIEBASED Wars…???/ Blah..Blah…Blah.

You clowns had a free pass for 8 years with that NITWIT Bush at the helm and you destroyed the nation ( Just like your CEO Prez did to every business he ever touched in the private sector)

Yep, even with my shoddy and limited prose I will tell you this: You (the GOP and all their Sycophants) had all the answers back in 2000 and now all you got is excuses and wishing failure on those that would seek to save this once great country.

So, with the REAL SMOE rant done: WHAT DO ARM CHAIR BUSH APOLOGISTS PROPOSE WE DO TO SAVE THE NATION THAT BUSH AND THE GOP DESTROYED????

You believe what you want to believe (you probably believe in Santa Claus and that Bush was the Chosen of God). Unlike you clowns here, I got a life and don’t have time to sit on the web and state the obvious for the Blind. I’ve been posting for the past almost 4 years now that Bush and the Evil GOP have ruined the country (don’t think so..tell me why and back it with facts?) and it would seem that a large portion of the country agreed in the last election. So with that said, when some one shows up here besides me and my supposed Alter Ego the Right Wing agenda and refuses to Spout your FAILED MANTRAs and GOP Loving chants…all of the sudden it’s me posting under an alias. Let me assure you that there is only one Joe Some and I will post under my name. Maybe that person posting is part of the Landslide that put the stake through the Evil GOP heart in November….NAH that could never be!!!

And here’s a newsflash for you and the rest of those stuck in the past (ie Most of the GOP) you guys (GOP) are marginalized now, with a message that no longer resonates with the American people. Face it your day in the sun ended when the Idiot from Crawford hopped on his horse and headed back to inbred-land. And the funny thing is he and Rove and his tactics destroyed your party and reduced it to regional party of Racists, Rubes, and Rednecks. You’ve lost a generation and a nation of voters and they ain’t coming back.

So with that said: Since you guys have the hot line to Jesus and the GOP has all the answers, once again I will ask: What do you suggest America do to save itself from the GOP/Bush mess that it finds itself in???

Let me guess, evade the question, more character assassination, name calling…etc.

How do you know who I voted for?

That's your trouble, you assume way more than you are capable of understanding. I have you number, Joe, Right Wing Agenda, Anonymous, or whoever you decide you want to be next week. You think anyone that disagrees with you, must be some evil Republican that is incapable of guiding themselves by a set of principles instead of a political party.

You keep thinking like you do, you keep restating the preapproved Daily Kos, MoveOn, and Huffpo talking points. The rest of us will debate issues and solutions, free from partisan propaganda. We will not allow ourselves to be brainwashed and will not classify something all good or all bad, solely based on whether or not there is a D or R after a name. And if it turns out we agree with one party or another, so be it.

The only way you are able to defend anything that is going on right now is to live in the past, that is by bashing Bush. You cannot give us one good reason as to why this stimulus should be passed, except that Obama won and he said it would be good. You spent eight years bashing Bush for what you perceived to be a abuses of power, a war mongering spirit, and a corrupt set of cronies as friends.

Yet, you now defend Obama's choice of 17 former lobbyists for high level positions, AFTER he promised not to employ any. You now defend a President, despite the fact he has nominated some pretty wily tax cheats. You make excuses, Joe. You do not counter with intelligent thought provoking arguments, you reply with more indictments on Bush under multiple names.

That's not spirited debate, That's not an intelligent defense of your man's policies, that's just a waste of our time. So, this is it for me, I have proved my point that you lack the knowledge base to run with people that do. You get the last word. Feel free to paint me anything you like, and be sure to throw an accusation towards Bush in for good measure.

Anonymous, you have something in common with our Lord, Obama: setting up strawmen and knockin' em down.

"If any American has to die," is what I said. Obama himself said we had to let the terrorists in GITMO go b/c it was bad for our image to keep 'em. But he won't guarantee that they won't come back and kill Americans. BTW, this happened in Yemen last month, when an American on the way to the consulate with her new husband was murdered by a former GITMO detainee. So, there's a fact for you.

It appears you and Obummer care more about our "image" - what the French think of us, e.g. - than keeping the enemy from killing us. That's completely insane, and just one of many reasons the new Prez. lost me on day one. His first act was to delay justice for 9/11 victims and grant a reprieve to unrepentant mass murderers like KSM. He had his chance to win me over and he blew it immediately.

However, if that is the only note in your musical repertoire, it is a very dull song.

When are liberals going to take a good look at Obama's choices and actually comment on them based on their own merits? They seem quite fearful to. The ultra libs are two afraid to tip it off yet what the real liberal agenda is, and the moderate liberals are beginning to realize Obama is crap and are too proud to admit it.

    roughhouse,

I don't know why but I continue to be amazed that NOBODY on the left can articulate a defense of Obama's insane policies.

Instead all continue to attack Republicans and usually have to stretch to do so. They still cannot get Limbaugh's "fail" quote right, but who cares about truth when you can get in a good demonization.

Cafferty attacks Bobby Jindal for using a good old southern colloquialism "good of". Wow, now that was worth the energy to point out.

Why isn't Cafferty out there telling us policy by policy how Obama is going to help the country and when can we expect his policies to start working? Because he can't. The media avoids such subjects like the plague. When somebody like Jim Cramer dares bring up the subject, he is gang raped by his fellow libs.

You guys can keep spouting meaningless points about grammer, cartoons, poster boys, etc. but unless you are actually going to argue a cognitive point here, I will call you on it every time. You might as well be talking gibberish or saying words at random like green, box, truck, lake, dog, balloon. They are irrelevant.

Until we have a real discussion to get to the bottom of what policies are best, with real terms, real cognitive points and set aside the BS like name calling and other worthless dribble, this country is doomed.

I’m sure you really cared about the National Debt after Bush and the Gop drove it through the roof. Wall Street is Irrelevant to Main Street and America. Yes, Bush made it almost IMPOSSSIBLE for ANYONE to get a loan, let alone small businesses. Oil is an old technology that we have held onto for to long. That’s all we need is to suck up to them more than Bush and Cheney already did. Oil is cheap now and now is the time to move away from it.

    2) Lay off the cliches and meaningless chatter.

Why? As that is all the GOP has now as they become more and more irrelevant. Bush and Rove did this for 8 years. Did you complain then? I think not.

First, how did we as a country get to this point?

Answer: the policies of the last 8 years. If The Democratics have their way, then they will deal with the consequences if they are wrong, as you party did in the last two elections.

Once again, what are your answers to the problems besides obstruction and fault finding?

I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a REAL answer today!

How did we get to this point?

Answer: The GOP that came to power acted for 6 years like liberal Democrats. Then the GOP lost power in 2006 and the country went even more to the left.

How do we get out of this mess?

Answer: By more tax cuts across the board, creating an environment that is welcoming rather than hostile to those who want to start businesses, creating an environment more conducive to investment by suspending the capital gains tax for a year, then cutting it in half after that.

As the economy improves, go through all spending and cut out the waste. Keep cutting spending and taxes until taxes are below 10% for all making sure everybody pays at least some tax.

That is a good start. Instead we are taking irresponsible spending under Bush and the GOP led Congress and using it as an excuse to perform radical social engineering and wealth transfers. We are taking a debt that would be difficult to pay back and replacing it with a debt that is nearly impossible to handle without defaulting at some point in the next decade.

These are good first steps. If you disagree, please don't spew cliches. Tell me exactly where they are wrong and tell me exactly why you think Obama's policies will work.

Good blog here, I'll be back often to read. I had wondered if anyone was going to say what everyone should be able to see.
